«Si logro escribir otro libro antes de morir, exploraré también al Hitler adulto», comentó Norman Mailer (1923-2007) en una de las entrevistas que concedió al publicar su última novela, El castillo en el bosque, donde se adentra en los quince primeros años del demencial y dañino caudillo nazi.

Esta obra, como todas las de Mailer, no deja indiferente. En la edición de Anagrama  (Anagrama ) encontramos un par de elogios contundentes: «Este nuevo libro es impúdico, ambicioso, cósmicamente crítico... y provocador» (Janet Maslin, The New York Times). «Un retrato del monstruo adolescente, un considerable aporte a la ficción histórica» (J. M. Coetzee, New York Review of Books). Pero no debemos obviar que El castillo en el bosque obtuvo un dudoso reconocimiento: el premio de la revista Literay Review a la novela de 2007 con la peor escena sexual, por el fragmento que reproduce el blog Moleskine literario.

Según  Rodrigo Fresán, además de un libro muy divertido, «con partes de una intensidad pasmosa y otras que provocan la más boba de las risas», es una obra donde se puede apreciar lo peor y lo mejor de Mailer. ¿Y tú qué crees?
