III. Un cepillo de dientes con mango de oro

En uno de los infinitos cuartos de baño revestidos de mármol de la mansión abandonada de Al Saadi, cuyas almenas miran al mar Mediterráneo, un muchacho de la calle, que ha entrado en el tropel, se apropia de un cepillo de dientes con mango de oro. No se sabe bien si el cepillo pertenecía al dueño de la mansión, o a Dina, su perra doberman, que disfrutaba de su propia suite, y de su propio cuarto de baño, y solía comer filet mignon, su plato preferido. Un criado se encargaba de lavarle los colmillos tras cada banquete.

            Otro se lleva como trofeo media docena de jeans Diesel, la marca preferida del futbolista fracasado. En un estacionamiento subterráneo hay media docena de vehículos, un Laborghini, un Hummer, un BMW, un Audi, un Mercedes, un Ferrari. Y, por supuesto, en los predios de la mansión, una cancha de futbol profesional, con grama artificial y torres de iluminación. Según las historias que corren, Al Saadi pagó una vez a Maradona un millón de dólares para que lo entrenara. De muy poco le sirvió.

            También ha entrado el pueblo a la mansión de Aisha el Gadafi, abogada de profesión, y a quien se recuerda por haber sido parte del bufete de abogados que se encargó de la defensa de Sadam Hussein. Presidía también en Libia una organización de caridad, para ayudar a los beduinos pobres y a los menesterosos de las calles. Madre amorosa, sólo el pabellón de juegos de sus niños era un verdadero parque de atracciones, y en una sala adyacente había una biblioteca infantil con cerca de dos mil volúmenes. Si a su hermano Al Saadi le gustaban los jeans Diesel, las preferencias de Aisha iban por las chaquetas de cuero Dolce & Gabbana, de las que tenía una amplia colección en sus closets.

Biografía

Sergio Ramírez nació en Nicaragua en 1942. Publicó su primer libro Cuentos, a los veinte años. Participó en la lucha para derrocar la dictadura Somoza y formó parte del gobierno revolucionario, del que llegó a ser vicepresidente en 1985. En su obra literaria figuran, entre más de una treintena de libros, Castigo divino (1988), Premio Internacional Dashiel Hammett de Novela; Un baile de máscaras (1995), Premio Laure Bataillon a la mejor novela extranjera en Francia en 1998; Margarita está linda la mar,  Premio Alfaguara de Novela 1998, y Premio Latinoamericano José María Arguedas en el 2000. Así también Cuentos completos (1998), con prólogo de Mario Benedetti; Adiós Muchachos, memoria de la revolución sandinista, (1999); el libro de cuentos Catalina y Catalina (2001); Mentiras Verdaderas (2001) y El viejo arte de mentir (2004), ambos sobre la creación literaria (2001); las novelas Sombras nada más (2002) y Mil y una muertes (2004); Señor de los Tristes, ensayos sobre escritores y escritura (2006), El reino animal, cuentos (2006), Tambor olvidado, ensayos (2007), El cielo llora por mí (2009) y La fugitiva (2011).
